More than ever, access to affordable and accessible healthcare is critical to Wisconsin’s future and the success of communities across the state. Gov. Evers has worked tirelessly to protect access to care, including reproductive care. During his first term, Gov. Evers has taken action to protect access to abortion services, has made meaningful investments in rural EMS service, and has been a champion for lowering prescription drug prices and expanding affordable healthcare coverage to even more Wisconsinites.
During his second term, he will continue to do the right thing to expand and protect access to healthcare.
- Protect Reproductive Care: With the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision overturning Roe v. Wade, it’s never been more important to do everything in our power to protect access to reproductive care. Gov. Evers continues to fight Wisconsin’s 1849-era criminal abortion ban, which was passed before women had the right to vote and contains no exception for rape or incest. Governor Evers has also promised to provide clemency to physicians prosecuted and found guilty under this law. As the legal battle over this law continues, Gov. Evers will continue to take any action necessary to protect access to reproductive services, including abortion and contraceptive services.
- Expanding Coverage and Lowering Prices: Gov. Evers continues to believe in the importance of expanding BadgerCare to support Wisconsin’s workforce, farmers, and small businesses, provide affordable coverage to even more Wisconsin families, and expand initiatives to lower health care costs for everyone across the state. BadgerCare expansion is supported by a wide majority of Wisconsin and he’ll continue to work to bring people together on this issue.
- Expand Access to Mental Health Services: Gov. Evers has made significant investments in mental health programming, including school-based mental health through his Get Kids Ahead Initiative. He has also announced additional funding to train mental health professionals to help fill jobs and provide services to communities across Wisconsin. Gov. Evers will continue working to make mental health services available and accessible to everyone who needs them.
- Improved Maternal and Infant Health Outcomes: During his first term, Gov. Evers has prioritized improving access to maternal and infant health programs to improve outcomes. He remains committed to providing more resources to improve care for expectant and new mothers and improving the state’s maternal mortality rate, particularly in communities of color.
- Strengthening Healthcare Workforce: Gov. Evers has worked to expand training programs to address Wisconsin’s shortage of CNAs, OBGYNs, nurses, and other healthcare professionals. In his second term, he will continue to find solutions to grow and modernize Wisconsin’s healthcare workforce, especially in rural areas of the state and in our long-term care industry, to make sure everyone is able to receive high-quality care.
- Access to Prescription Drugs: Everyone should be able to afford their medication but for far too many Wisconsinites their prescription medications remain out of reach with outrageous, irrational, and burdensome out-of-pocket expenses. Gov. Evers will continue to advocate for reform and transparency in drug pricing, like the initiatives outlined in his “Less for Rx” Prescription Drug Plan — a bold package that would lower drug costs for Wisconsinites.
