The Lie: Legislative Republicans claim they alone were responsible for the tax cuts in this year’s budget.
The Truth: Gov. Evers’ 2021-23 budget was the first bipartisan budget in more than a decade. Gov. Evers brought both Democrats and Republicans together to pass the largest increase in general aid for education and the first increase in special education funding in more than a decade, and a $3.4 billion income tax cut for Wisconsinites.
While the positive impact on Wisconsin families and businesses is what’s most important here, if we’re talking about who gets the credit: this one was a team effort, spearheaded by the governor, who signed the first bipartisan budget since 2007 into law.
After he signed this budget, Gov. Evers also directed an additional $100 million in additional aid to public schools. [WPR, 7/8/21]
