Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers’ campaign is seeking a highly-motivated and detail-oriented Deputy Press Secretary for his re-election campaign. The 2022 Wisconsin Gubernatorial race will be one of the top targeted Governor’s races in the country. 

Location: Madison, WI
Salary: $3,750-$4,250
Reports to: Senior Press Secretary
Start Date: 7/1/2022

Job Responsibilities:

  • Write and edit speeches, talking points, releases, and other written material for internal and external use;
  • Build and maintain relationships with select local reporters;
    • Identify media opportunities to secure positive coverage of governor’s campaign events;
    • Assist communications team with select media outreach;
    • Work with the communications team to field press inquiries;
    • Staff open press events as assigned;
  • Work with political team and Senior Press Secretary to identify and train surrogates;
  • Monitor news coverage of the governor and Republican opponents;
  • Other duties as assigned by the Senior Press Secretary and Communications Director.

Qualifications (Required):

  • Strong writing skills with a demonstrated attention to detail
  • Ability to write and edit quickly and meet deadlines
  • Familiarity with basic systems to distribute press materials
  • Growth Mindset – ability to take and implement feedback
  • Relentlessly Goal Oriented – enjoys working toward and achieving ambitious goals. Keeps calm in stressful situations. Has the capacity and willingness to work long hours during peak season, rolling up their sleeves and getting the work done
  • Cultural Competency – able to build relationships and collaborate with colleagues, voters, and volunteers who identify as POCI and across lines of difference

Qualifications (Preferred):

  • At least two cycles of experience in political communications or journalism
  • Experience working in a campaign environment, or similarly fast-paced and high-pressure workplace
  • An understanding of the Wisconsin landscape
