Gov. Tony Evers is doing the right thing for Brown County and all of Wisconsin. Under his leadership, 122 Brown County small businesses have opened their doors or expanded and Brown County businesses have received an additional 5,529 grants to help pay bills, stock shelves, hire employees, and more. Across Wisconsin, Gov. Evers continues to deliver results. 86% of Wisconsinites have received a 15% income tax cut or more, unemployment is at historic lows, and our schools are ranked among the top 10 in the nation. Gov. Evers has brought Republicans and Democrats together to do the right thing for communities and families in Brown County, and he’s just getting started.
Gov. Evers Delivers for Brown County
In December 2021, Gov. Evers announced an additional $110 million dollars for Wisconsin’s public schools, about $133.72 in per pupil aid across the state. The Green Bay school district is set to receive $2.8 million and Appleton schools $1.9 million.
Gov. Evers directed $15 million to Brown County to support the relocation of Green Bay coal piles away from their present downtown location.
On May 25, 2021, after calling a special session of the Legislature to expand BadgerCare and invest $1 billion in cost savings into economic development projects across the state—including funding to move coal piles in Green Bay—Gov. Evers visited the coal pile site to talk about the importance and significance of the project to the local community.
Gov. Evers signed 2021 Wisconsin Act 74 to designate the Walnut Street Bridge on State Trunk Highway 29 across the Fox River in the city of Green Bay as the “Bart Starr Memorial Bridge” in recognition of Bryan Bartlett “Bart” Starr, celebrated Green Bay Packers player who helped lead the team to six divisional championships, five National Football League championships, and the first two Super Bowls.
On August 3, 2021, Gov. Evers visited Hinterland Brewery to announce $10 million in grants to support tourism-related investment projects.
Gov. Evers attended the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development’s Vets Ready Employer Initiative Awards at the Brown County Job Center to recognize awardees for their outstanding support of veterans in their employment.
Gov. Evers announced the Green Bay Veterans Housing Center and two other locations in Northeast Wisconsin would receive $4.2 million dollars in funding to help make improvements to the veterans’ centers, which provides resources such as temporary housing, training, supportive services, and assistance to those at risk or are homeless.
