Save consumers money and control prescription drug prices
As a cancer survivor, I know firsthand how important it is to have access to quality, affordable care, including coverage for those with a pre-existing condition. I promised to do everything in my power to increase access to care, and I’m proud of the progress we’ve already made.
One of the first actions I took in office was to remove Wisconsin from a lawsuit seeking to repeal the Affordable Care Act, which would have slashed protections for more than 2.4 million Wisconsinites with pre-existing conditions. After the previous administration’s efforts to repeal healthcare access, Wisconsin is once again moving in the right direction to protect care.
I’ve continued to believe in expanding BadgerCare, which would increase access to healthcare and save the state $1.6 billion. Wisconsin is one of only 12 states that hasn’t expanded its Medicaid program and I’m committed to getting this done.
We’ve also worked to lower the cost of prescription drugs for Wisconsinites. In addition to signing legislation that increases transparency and accountability in drug pricing, I’ve introduced plans to go even further. Under the Less for Rx Act, the state would have more power to save consumers money and control prescription drug prices, including establishing a $50 copay cap on insulin.
I’m proud of the work I’ve done to protect access to reproductive care in our state. Wisconsin Republicans have repeatedly tried to insert politics into deeply personal healthcare decisions. I have already vetoed 9 Republican bills restricting access, some which would virtually eliminate a woman’s right to choose. As long as I’m governor, I will always protect access to reproductive healthcare.
I never imagined the challenges we’d face with a global pandemic, but I’m proud of the work we’ve done to keep Wisconsinites safe and healthy. I will continue leading with science and common sense to keep our kids in schools, protect public health, and ensure our Main Streets can thrive. Wisconsin has had one of the best vaccine rollouts in the nation, even earning bipartisan praise; and an analysis ranked Wisconsin second in the Midwest for getting federal recovery aid allocated.
